I feel this role is a great match for me, both personally and professionally. And if you hire me, I will work hard to impress you and complete each task to the best of my abilities.”

That’s a really strong answer that you can use during any telephone interview whatsoever. So let look at the next question of your telephone interview.

Question #2: Why are you applying for this job?

Although this question is easy, it catches a lot of people out. But here’s a really good answer example.

Answer Example: “I am applying for the job for two main reasons. Firstly, I want to work in a role that I can make good use of my skills and qualities, and having studied the person specification, I feel this role is a solid match for those. I don’t want to work in a role where I’m simply going through the motions each day. I want to make a difference whilst I’m in my job and I want to see the results of my hard work.

Secondly, I have researched your organization online and you are obviously enthusiastic. You’re positive about the future and you take pride in the services and products you sell. On that basis, I feel I could stay with you for a long time. Also, the reviews left online by previous and current employees are extremely positive about you and in particular how you treat your staff.”

Finally, I feel one of my main strengths is that I’m able to see the bigger picture, and I understand that if I don’t do my job properly and perform the role to the highest standards possible, it makes it difficult for you as my employer to achieve your own goals and objectives.”

Question #5: Where do you see yourself in five years time? Or they might say, what are your, you know, future career plans?

Here’s really good example answer to this interview question.

Answer Example: “Well, the truth is, I’m now looking for long term employment and ideally, I would see myself still with you if I’m successful. I plan to work hard to learn the role quickly and get settled within the team as soon as possible.

Moving forward, if you’re satisfied with my performance, which I genuinely believe you will be, I would be happy to take on more responsibilities and even perhaps help train up future employees who join your organization in similar roles to this one.”
