In this guide, you will learn the DV 2024 lottery photo requirements. Though there are others factors that can disqualify you from the diversity visa lottery but mostly, many people don’t win the lottery or even go to the selection process because of their photo.

Photo is very important because the photo requirements is based on the passport photo of the United States of America. It’s based on the visa photo requirement of the United States of America and not requirements in your country.

DV 2024 lottery applicants must upload a recent photo of themselves and all co-applicants. You must upload an electronic file containing your digital photograph after you register for the DV 2024 lottery.

DV 2024 Lottery Photo Requirements

The photo requirements are very strict and if you do not comply with all of the specifications, your entire DV 2024 lottery application will be disqualified, so submit the photo carefully.

Before you submit your 2024 DV lottery application, please make sure you read this guide from start to end.

You are not allowed to manipulate your photographs or alter the facial characteristics digitally. If you did or doing it, the result in your entire DV-2024 lottery application will be disqualified.

Failure to upload a photograph with the correct size and proportion of each individual on the DV-2024 lottery, application may result in the disqualification of the principal applicant and refusal of all visas associated with the case at the time of the DV lottery interview.

Any applicant photo must be in colors at least 24-bit color depth. Black and white photos are not accepted.

You do not have to go to a professional Photoshop to get your photo taken. You can have a friend or relative take a photo of you using a digital camera or a cellphone camera.

The person being photographed should be in front of a neutral light-colored background, as dark or patterned backgrounds are not acceptable.

You are not allowed to wear any head decoration, such as sunglasses or other items that detract from the visibility of the face.

Photographs of applicants wearing head coverings or hats are not acceptable unless the head covering is worn for religious reasons.

The head covering may not obscure any portion of the face of the applicant. Photographs of applicants must be 600 pixels x 600 pixels in size. The new requirement is that any applicant wearing eyeglasses on the photo they submitted, will be all qualified.

Photo/Image Requirements for the Diversity Visa (DV) Program Entrants

If you are entering the Diversity Visa (DV) Program online application, you must upload your digital image as part of your entry. Your digital image must be:

  • In JPEG (.jpg) file format
  • Equal to or less than 240 kB (kilobytes) in file size
  • In a square aspect ratio (height must equal width)
  • 600×600 pixels in dimension

In addition to the digital image requirements, if you want to scan an existing photo, your existing photo must be:

  • 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm)
  • Scanned at a resolution of 300 pixels per inch (12 pixels per millimeter)

You can use a professional visa photo service to ensure your photo meets all the requirements, you may take the photo yourself. Photos must not be digitally enhanced or altered to change your appearance in any way.

You can use the Department of State’s free photo tool to:

  • Start Photo Tool
  • Select a digital image stored on your computer
  • Resize and rotate it if necessary
  • Crop it to a square image of exactly 600 x 600 pixels, and
  • Save it to your computer for printing

Taking photos of your baby or toddler

When taking a photo of your baby or toddler, no other person should be in the photo, and your child should be looking at the camera with his or her eyes open.

  • Tip 1: Lay your baby on his or her back on a plain white or off-white sheet. This will ensure your baby’s head is supported and provide a plain background for the photo. Make certain there are no shadows on your baby’s face, especially if you take a picture from above with the baby lying down.
  • Tip 2: Cover a car seat with a plain white or off-white sheet and take a picture of your child in the car seat. This will also ensure your baby’s head is supported

Diversity Visa Program Selectees

Each DV applicant will need to bring two (2) identical photos to the interview. Your photos must be:

  • Printed on photo quality paper
  • 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size
